The advent of the Chirped Pulse Amplification (CPA) technique has increased the reachable laser powers, intensities and electric fields. These fields several order of maggnitudes higher the ones achieved with superconducting RFQ, from 0.05 GV/n to hundreds of GV/m allow to accelerate electrons to GeV energies in centimetric distances (esperimenti LOA e SLAC). Protons and light ions in the few MeV range have been extract from the impact of a laser pulse with a thin foil. A new field opens in basic physics of non linear properties of matter in very high fields and and very chelleging tecnological applications concerning compact devices for medical therapy. Moreover a new pathway opens for inetial fusion in the fast ignition scenario The Bologna group has developed an electromagnetic PIC code ALaDyn which can be interfaced with our previous electrostatic PIC code HALODYN to perform integrated virtual experiments of acceleration, transport and multistaging acceleration for electron beams, acceleration and injection in a linac for proton or ion beams.
