Motivations and Goals

The workshop is intended to open a discussion panel on the production of high-energy and high-intensity particle beams by interaction of ultra-intense ultra-short laser pulses with micrometric or sub-micrometric targets with special emphasis on the efficiency of the mechanism. Another item will concern beam post-processing to achieve very high quality (small energy spread and emittance). A few contributions on high efficiency electron acceleration and or X ray production by all optical free electron lasers will also be accepted. The conference will cover theoretical aspects, numerical techniques concerning the acceleration dynamics as well as novel experimental results.
One of the goals is to promote a joint discussion between scientists from accelerators and laser laboratories and academic institutions. Graduate students in beam dynamics, accelerators and laser physics are invited to participate. We expect to focus the crucial open problems and to outline the analytical and computational techniques suitable to treat them.
Future applications of laser accelerated ion beams such as hadron therapy and indirect inertial fusion driven by ion beams will drive the discussion and we expect dedicated contributions.


Logistic information. Senigallia is located on the Adriatic coast in Italy, in the middle of Marche, a region rich of historical and natural beauties, easily reachable by car, train, air. Sessions: The plenary sessions will take place at the Senbhotel (*) conference room, a few minutes walk from the beach and from the centre of the town.

Contributions: Oral presentations will be upon invitation by the international advisory board. Independent submission of a limited number of oral presentations will be considered. Poster
sessions will be eventually organized. The proceedings will be published on NIM -A.
